There is a strong link between hearing, oral and written language, reading, learning, self esteem, behaviour and school success. Speech-language pathologists and audiologists are essential professionals in the educational setting. They can provide screening, assessment and intervention for children of all ages and consultation with their families and school personnel to help students reach their academic potential. This presentation was developed by a committee of CASLPA audiologists and speech-language pathologists for our members working in school-based settings to use as a general information tool for a variety of audiences including teachers, administrators, parents etc. The presentation contains 34 slides that test the audience's knowledge of speech, language and hearing disorders, describe the educational background and roles of speech-language pathologists and audiologists working in schools, and how communication problems affect school performance with emphasis on the link between language and hearing and school functioning/academic success.
